During the attack many vehicles were abandoned along the road. This Panther Mark V tank belonged to the 116th Panzer Division.
The Panther is a German medium tank deployed during World War II on the Eastern and Western Fronts in Europe from mid-1943 to the war’s end in 1945.
The 116th Division was constituted in the Rhineland and Westphalia areas of western Germany in March 1944 from the remnants of the 16th Panzergrenadier Division, and the 179th Reserve Panzer Division. It was commanded by Günther von Manteuffel.
